Birthdays in my family equals a big splash out dinner somewhere.  There's nothing I love more than to get a tad dressed up and fill my belly with delicious goodness.  As much as I love cooking, sometimes it's nice to fork out some hard earned cash for food that is simply beyond anything I can whip up in the kitchen.  Hawksmoor labels itself as having 'the best steaks in London' pretty bold statement to make don't you think?  There were high expectations for this restaurant and the boyf and I were indeed expecting to eat the best steak in London, and boy did we get more than we bargained for.  We were both off the alcohol so ordered an Apple and Mint Swizzler each.  These were insanely refreshing and later in the evening turned out to be a welcome cleanliness to cut through the richness of the meat.  For starters we chose the fried Queenies with tartare sauce and the Tamworth belly ribs.  The Queenies (scallops in batter) were served as a generous portion in a perfect crispy batter with a not too tart tartare sauce.  The ribs were out of this world.  The quality of the pork was perfection and the dark, smoky barbecue sauce left me yearning for more.  For our main, we opted for the Porterhouse to share, a stonking 900g steak as all of the smaller cuts had been sold. The meat was unreal.  Cooked medium, it had just the right amount of pinkness without it being too rare  along with a salty charred flavour from the grill which left your mouth watering.  The meat was so soft you almost couldn't cut it and the phrase melt-in-the-mouth does not do this steak justice. Accompanied by creamed spinach, triple cooked chips and a buttery Bearnaise sauce, this was one of the best meals I've ever had.
